OUR SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY

Journey to Tomorrow

We know that sustainability is as important to you as it is to us – and that’s why we’ve made it easy for you to stay at a hotel that shares your values.

IHG Journey to Tomorrow is a 10-year action plan involving all IHG Hotels & Resorts in more than 100 countries around the world. The plan was set in motion in 2020 with a series of ambitious new commitments to make a positive difference for our people, communities and planet. Guided by IHG’s purpose to provide True Hospitality for Good, we will work side by side with those who stay, work and partner with us, to help shape the future of responsible travel – supporting our people and making a positive difference to our local communities, while preserving our planet’s beauty and diversity long into the future. You can learn more about IHG Journey to Tomorrow here.

Our outcome is to becoming the leading sustainable Resort in Fiji.

Coral Reef Protection Project

Coral reefs are extremely fragile and vulnerable to environmental changes including pollution, human activity and natural cyclical changes in ocean temperatures caused by climate change. We work closely with our resident diver operator, Reef Safari, for education and restoration efforts in Natadola Bay.

Rise Beyond the Reef

We have partnered with Rise Beyond the Reef (RBTR) to expand the admirable work that the NGO (non-governmental organisation) does to bridge the divide between remote communities, government and the private sector, sustainably creating a better world for women and children.

All InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa guests receive a 15% discount when purchasing products on the Rise Beyond the Reef website by adding BULAIHG at checkout.

Honeybee Project

Our teeny-flying friends have been busy for the past few months buzzing around our lush gardens and producing 100% pure honey! Our resident honeybee project with beehive installations produces a golden elixir that can be enjoyed during breakfast at Navo Restaurant and for our signature treatment at Spa InterContinental. The long-term goal of this sustainability project is to produce enough honey to supply the whole Resort year-round.

Food Waste Management

From Food Waste to Food Recovery. With up to 700 guests eating at our Resort each day, unfortunately there is food waste. Rather than dumping it into the trash, the resort works with the farmers from Sanasana village to ensure that the leftover food does not go to waste. Each morning Tukai, who owns a piggery in the village, makes his way to the resort and collects the waste to be used as feed for his pigs.

Spa InterContinental Herb Garden

Spa InterContinental demonstrates its commitment to sustainability through many projects, one of which is an on site herb garden. This is an experiential highlight for guests where the elements and visuals of nature combine harmoniously to relax, restore and inspirate the mind, body and spirit. The fresh herbs from the herb garden are used in Spa treatments, infused teas, and smoothies.

Natadola Beach Clean-up

Natadola Beach has been recognized as one of the best beaches in the world, with its powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters stretching as far as the eye can see. InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa conducts monthly Beach Clean-Up Days to protect this pristine environment and collect litter around Natadola Bay. Staff members, local organizations and guests work together to keep the beach clean, protect our ocean, and raise awareness about litter and single-use plastic pollution.

IHG Green Engage™ system

Green Engage is an innovative program which allows IHG to design, build and run even more sustainable hotels.

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa uses the platform to understand our energy, water and waste usage and takes recommended actions to make the property even more sustainable.
