‘Honeybees’ are the latest buzz in Natadola, Fiji

Natadola honey beehives project cultivates home-grown raw honey for guests' indulgence at Spa InterContinental and Navo Signature Restaurant, aligning with Resort's sustainability goals.

20th May 2023 (Natadola, Fiji): InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa launched its honeybee project by installing ten beehives in the Engineering gardens, each containing approximately 60,000 bees. Led by the Resident Beekeeper, Simione Neirube, the project aims to provide a haven for the bees and assist the resort to sustainably producing honey for consumption by its guests.

Aligned with the resort's Journey to Tomorrow sustainability initiatives, the Natadola honey beehives project focuses on producing more home-grown raw honey for consumption. The project provides a unique experience for guests to indulge in 100% pure honey during breakfast at Navo Signature Restaurant and Club InterContinental, as well as in Spa InterContinental with its signature honey treatment.

Around sixty litres of honey have been harvested from all the hives since the project was set up, with the long-term goal of producing enough honey to supply the whole resort year-round.

“We are thrilled to launch the honeybee project, which is another step towards our long-term goal of becoming a more sustainable resort. Our guests have the opportunity to experience the unique taste of our home-grown raw honey in various aspects of their stay, including breakfast at Navo Restaurant and Club InterContinental, as well as our signature Spa InterContinental treatment.,” said Lachlan Walker, Area General Manager – South Pacific. “This project aligns with our sustainability initiatives, and we are excited to offer our guests a truly immersive and sustainable experience”.
