FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels donate FJ$11,000 to Diabetes Fiji

Thursday, 23 July 2026 (Natadola, Fiji): The FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels & Resorts have donated FJ$11,000 to Diabetes Fiji Inc. to support the people and programmes behind its community health screenings, diabetes education and ongoing assistance for people living with, or at risk of, diabetes in Fiji.

Led by InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, with the support of Grand Pacific Hotel Suva and Holiday Inn Suva, the donation was raised through coffee sales held across the three hotels every Friday throughout June. It marks the hotels’ first fundraising initiative in support of Diabetes Fiji.

The initiative reflects IHG Hotels & Resorts’ commitment to looking after its people, extending from the health and wellbeing of hotel colleagues to the communities in which its hotels operate.

As 100 per cent FNPF-owned properties, the hotels also have a strong connection to the people of Fiji. The partnership with Diabetes Fiji reflects a shared focus on supporting long-term wellbeing and helping improve access to preventative health services.

The contribution will help Diabetes Fiji sustain the people and programmes behind its community services, including its Primary Health Screening Programme, volunteer engagement and support for young people living with diabetes. It will also assist the organisation in continuing its work with vulnerable communities and people who may have limited access to preventative health services.

Diabetes remains a significant public health concern in Fiji. Early detection, regular monitoring and access to reliable health information can help reduce the risk of serious complications. Diabetes Fiji’s work continues beyond screening through health education, lifestyle guidance, referrals, follow-up support and longer-term disease management.

Alongside the donation, Diabetes Fiji conducted a three-day wellness screening programme at InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa from 20 to 22 July 2026. The programme gave hotel colleagues convenient access to a broad range of preventative health and wellbeing services.

Screenings and consultations included blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, height and body mass index assessments, alongside nutrition guidance, mental health support, physiotherapy, foot care, dental screening, eye and hearing assessments, and awareness of key health risk factors.

A Group Of People Sitting Around A Table

Colleagues at InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa access onsite health and wellness services during the three-day screening programme delivered in partnership with Diabetes Fiji.

“Hospitality is ultimately about people. Our colleagues create the experiences our guests remember, so looking after their health and wellbeing is fundamental to how we operate,” said Lachlan Walker, Regional General Manager, Fiji and Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts. “This partnership gives our colleagues convenient access to health checks and trusted information, while also helping Diabetes Fiji extend essential services into communities across Fiji.”

“As FNPF-owned hotels, we have a strong connection to the people of Fiji. We are proud to contribute in a way that supports healthier colleagues, stronger communities and a more sustainable future for our industry.”

Marawa Kini, Executive Director, Diabetes Fiji Inc., said:
“This contribution is an investment in the people and programmes that deliver diabetes prevention, screening and ongoing support across Fiji. Sustaining the staff and volunteers who take these services into workplaces and communities is essential to our work.

“The support from the FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels will help us continue providing early detection, health education, follow-up guidance and practical assistance to people living with diabetes and those who may be at risk. We thank the hotels, their colleagues and guests for supporting this work.”
